What's your story?
NAIAD
I was surprised not to spot NAIAD anywhere on your three pages. I "think" NAIAD was a goddess of water... or of creeks and streams, I've heard various definitions. My first liveaboard was a wooden, 40' gaff-rigged yawl by that name. I parted with her about eight years ago and am currently building up, out of bits and pieces, a salvaged Starwind23. And I'm toying with naming her "NAIADII"... but I'm as seriously considering "The Hedonist"... that seems a lot more appropriate. Anyway, nothing is going to happen until I can locate a bow pulpit. Can you imagine anyone crass enough to steal the bow pulpit off a guys boat? Oh! Another name I'm surprised that's missing is H20K9..... (Water Dog)
GATESWAY
The story is simple, my girlfriends nickname is Gates!!! As you may have already guessed, she likes things her way so voila! "GATESWAY" Our weekend wonder is a Thundercraft Nova.
IF I HAD A PONY
A friend and I headed down the road to the poorhouse and bought a boat together but we could not think of a name that would suit us both. Finally, listening to the radio one day it came to us: " If I had a boat" by Lyle Lovett which includes the line " If I had a pony, I'd ride hime on my boat." Unfortunately all this would not fit on the transom so we shortened it to "If I had a pony...". Now, of course, almost nobody gets it. Oh well.
P.S. Best line in the song: "Kiss my ass, I've bought a boat, I'm going off to sea."
TOUCHSTONE
after the title of a poem I published a few years ago. A touchstone is what we used to pickup out of stream beds to rub between our fingers and get mellow...nature's best, I guess. We see our boat in that light, a vessel of tranquil (yet serious) living.
PIECES OF EIGHT
My boat is an 8 metre (yes we use metrics in New Zealand) sportfisher and my name is Kidd (Captain) thought it was appropriate. So far it has been successful at game fishing with 5 striped and 1 blue marlin and quite a few yellowfin tuna. All in 2 seasons as a private boat.
