A few years ago, my wife and I were sailing off the coast of Oregon in a 42′ sloop. We were all going whale-watching, and the skipper had Jimmy Buffett playing on the stereo. I asked him if the whales liked Jimmy’s music, and he said “no, but they really seem to like Enya.” So, I looked into her music, and have become quite an Enya fan.
On buying my 4th boat (a 27-footer) this past Summer, I was having a real hard time thinking of a boat name that hadn’t already been used, at least in the Puget Sound area. I knew that Enya’s real name is “EITHNE” in Gaelic, but pronounced “Enya.” It seemed like the perfect name, so “Eithne” (“Enya”) she is! So far, I have not heard of another boat with her name.
