 Boat Naming Made Simple
JERSEY GIRL
When I broke my right leg at a regatta, my boyfriend bought me my veryown Laser Sailboat as a "get well" present. He named her "Jersey Girl"which is also his nickname for me. I am now married to a Jersey Boy -see "Gizmo".

GIZMO
I was sailing at Hyannis Yacht Club in Mass, and was explaining to myfriends the latest modifications I had made to my boat. My friendsdecided my Laser should be called Gizmo, based on all the "doo hickeys"I had done. I am now married to Jersey Girl, and our Laser fleetconsists of 3 - one has no name yet!

MEHYT
is the name of my boat and it's also the name of the egyptian God of the northern wind. In french "Vent du Nord".

SYNDICATE
Yellowknife, Northwest Territories - CanadaThree of us got together last winter over a bottle of rum and decided to go"time-share" on a sailboat. One partner went down to Vancouver andscouted, while myself and the remaining partner started the finance end. Well, before you knew it, we had ourselves a 26 foot Reinell transportedfrom British Columbia to Yellowknife. Perfect little Winnebago on Waterfor the 12 weeks we enjoy it here in the Canadian Arctic. She's docked atSail North/Pier 1 on Great Slave Lake. Over much debate, we couldn'tdecide what to call her as each one of us had several choices. Lo andbehold, when we couldn't make up our minds, someone stated...that's whathappens when you invest in a syndicate...

KAAT MOSSEL
(Eng.: Kate Muscle) You should see our little sailing-ship (and know the old dutch tale) tofully understand the connection! In short: Kaat Mossel was a sturdy, somewhat pompeous madam who lived in Rotterdam in the 1800's. Her looksinvited men to make all sorts of funny remarks, usually these manwouldn't have any teeth left in their mouth after making those remarks(and standing within smacking range of Kaat)! Now Kaat Mossel is a very pretty (but sturdy, somewhat pompeous) littlemotorsailer which will give us (Martine and me) years & years ofbeautiful (allthough not so fast) sailing.
