 Boat Naming Made Simple

NEW ADVENTURE
The name was decided on when the first sailboat (other than the hobie) was purchased in Ohio by my father who has always had powerboats. The first New Adventure was a Hunter 34 the second a Hunter 37 and the current New Adventure is a Beneteau First 42. Our dingy is "Little Adventure" tender to New Adventure. We love the Beneteau and sailing the Chesapeake Bay and can still do "Ego Alley" in Annapolis even without a load powerboat :-).

RAIL ROAD RETIREMENT
because that is what I did.

NOKOMIS
comes from the haunting poem "Song of Hiawatha" by Longfellow. As related to them, Nokomis is, in fact, "Daughter of the Moon".

Actually Nokomis was the Grandmother of Hiawatha.

Come to Minnesota in the summer and visit the land of Nokomis and Hiawatha!

HUNTRESS
When I bought the first Huntress, I couldn't figure out a name. I took my then-boyfriend's son out for a sail, and he asked the boat's name. I said I was looking for one. He asked what kind of boat it was, and I told him it was a Hunter. He processed for a millisecond, and said "It's a Hunter, you're a girl. Huntress." The current Huntress is a 1984 Hunter 31. She hunts for the perfect anchorage, the perfect sunset, the perfect wind, and the perfect Margarita...

AQUA-HOLIC
Actually, when I was working at WKRQ-FM in Cincinnati, we had a contest to name the thing. It's a 24 foot Bayliner..(no big deal)--but we had trouble naming it. One of our listeners came up with this-it fits my personality.
