 Boat Naming Made Simple

LUNA SEA
When we moved from San Diego to Austin in 1990 our friends thought we were nuts. Then when we bought our 23ft Wellcraft Cruiser and started to trailer it to Lake Powell, Long Beach, Aransas Pass, etc. they said we were lunatics. Then the economy fell apart in San Diego and we were "singing and ordering drinks" in Austin. Yeah, we're crazy - like a fox.

SALEROSA
basic latin would be Salty Rose. Boat came from Central America and colloqueal(SP?) is Saucy or sexy girl. All aplicable to this vessel. Wonderful Islander 32 from 1964.

HOLUKE'A
January 31, 1997 - About one thousand years ago the Polynesians set sail in Holuke'a for what would become known as Hawai'i. Holuke'a means "Star of Gladness" and is the name of our Schock Santana 22' sailboat. I grew up in Hawaii before it became a state and intend to go back when I retire. The boat is currently in Southern Califormia.

4TH OF JULY
for the day we bought it. The event was somewhat like coming home from the doctor's office hearing that you're expecting - the first question was, "What do we do now?" and the second was, "What do we name it?" The second question was a whole lot easier to answer than the first!

EL SI GRANDE
Both my wifie and I have initials L C. My company is called LCSystems (actually for Longterm Care)(computer programs and nursing homes). When we purchased a 70' Somerset houseboat for Lake Powell, I was going to call it The El Sea Grande, as it was larger than any of our other boats and was going to call the smaller 21' runabout Lil El Sea. However, my brother-in-law laughed and said EL SI Grande, "The Big Yes". (It took fewer letters and was easier to put on the boat)
