Note the name iplaced, and then the hat is tossed on. Then the “letterweight” changes the balance. All these ideas are illustrations for comparison and discussion for placement.

1. black with hat on M might be a better balance for letterweight with the way the Y leaves a lot of open space at the end of the line.
1. hull preview with Upper/Lower hailing port, this just for comparison with Upper case a little over 4 and lower case i and r a little under 4″. The name is oversized because it should be smaller than the port.
1b. hull preview with placement all centered and constraining the linewidth with Coast Guard approved letter height. The S height is 5.5 on both of these examples, however, in this one a condensed width allows a smaller overall graphic.
2. Blue letters with black hat as you suggested.
2a. hull preview with Uppercase oottowa hailing port at 4″ to set the name appart
2b. Using same font for hailing port Uppercase, but constrained line width.
