Thar Chinn

(pronounced thar-cheen) is the name we gave our spritely 1979 23 ft Kittywake sloop. Thar chinn literally translates to “over the head” or “above the head”, both of which we thought we were when we took on this boat (our first, and the interior had been totally destroyed by mildew and neglect when we got her). However, the Irish use the expresion “thar chinn!” to denote a superb performance, and this best describes the way she sails.
